Hobe Sound Area Golf

Hobe Sound - Area Golf Courses offer championship golf experiences

Eaglewood Country Club
This is a private course. This is a very demanding course that has many hazards. The narrow fairways are tree lined and the back nine is a natural preserve area that is untouched.

Heritage Ridge Golf Club
This is a semi-private course. This course, which is just a mile from the ocean, is very scenic and contains plenty of water and wildlife. The signature hole is #10, a 362-yard, par 4, requiring two separate shots over water. The most challenging hole is #8, a 546-yard, par 5, with numerous water hazards and swamps. Members may walk the course after 4 PM.

Hobe Sound Golf Club
This is a private course. This is a fairly narrow course built on primarily flat terrain, but at times, there are some mounds that can give you an uneven lie. The marshlands and many water hazards come into play on all the course's holes and there are well-positioned sand bunkers. The average-sized greens vary in undulation and are fast. The locals consider these greens as the best maintained greens in the state. The signature hole is #18, a 400-yard, par 4, with a beautiful view of the clubhouse and requiring an approach shot over water. This club doesn't publish rental carts or green fees.

Jupiter Island Club
This is a private course. This course is located on an island in Hobe Sound. There are water hazards coming into play on six holes, and the wind is always a factor. Caddies are mandatory if you choose to walk the course. George and Tom Fazio redesigned the course in the 1970s.

Lost Lake Golf Club
This is a private course. This narrow course's fairways are not lined with trees, but marshlands instead. There is also a defined cut of rough bordering the fairways, so shot accuracy is at a premium. The large greens are somewhat sloped. The signature hole is #7, a 485-yard, par 5, which a golfer can reach in two shots, but they must hit his or her shot to a green that is well protected by water hazards. There are a few grass bunkers on the course, but there are many more waste bunkers.

Area Parks
Hobe Sound Area Parks
Jonathan Dickinson State Park-- Want to get away from it all? You can by visiting Hobe Sound's crown jewel – Jonathan Dickinson State Park. With more than 11,000 acres, the park has something for everyone. Rental boats, cabins, bike trails, and tours of the Loxahatchee River aboard the 44-passenger Loxahatchee Queen II, are popular ways to enjoy the park. Wildlife found in the park includes deer, raccoons, foxes, bobcats, opossums, alligators, otters, and many more. Over 140 species of birds have been identified here, making Jonathan Dickinson an excellent birding destination.

Blowing Rocks Preserve -- is a magnificent barrier island sanctuary located on Jupiter Island, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River Lagoon. Blowing Rocks protects a variety of natural habitats, including beach dune, coastal strand, mangrove wetlands, tropical hammock and oak hammock.

Its rocky Anastasia limestone shoreline is the largest on the Atlantic coast. During extreme high tides and after winter storms, seas break against the rocks and force plumes of saltwater up to 50 feet skyward, an impressive sight for which the preserve was named.

Hobe Sound beaches offer hours of relaxation

Beaches
Hobe Sound Beach is located on A1A and Bridge Rd. on Jupiter Island. Amenities include free parking, showers, restrooms, and lifeguards. Hobe Sound Public Beach is one of South Florida's better spots for large surf. Sand settles between the outside reef and the shore, and the waves reform over each successive sandbar. Good days at Hobe Sound serve up long walls that are perfect for the kind of high-speed turns that melt rails and dissolve fins. Smaller days wedge playfully over one section of reef. A small crowd tends to congregate in front of the lifeguard tower, mostly because it serves as a good landmark, but there are peaks up and down the beach.

Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge is a pristine 967-acre park with 3˝ miles of beach on Jupiter Island. It’s one of the state’s most popular turtle nesting beaches, so if you are here in the spring or summer, you’ll be sure to spot some nests. On the mainland, preserved nature trails weave along the Intracoastal Waterway.

Area Hiking Trails
Jonathan Dickinson State Park offers a trail that consists of two loops with almost a mile of trail as a connector. The trail totals about 18 miles and traverses a variety of terrain, but primarily goes through sand pine scrub and pine flatwoods.

Dupuis Reserve has hiking trails that have been developed in a stacked loop (four loops) system offering hikers a choice of hikes ranging from 4.3 to 15.5 miles.

Lake Okeechobee Segment of the Florida National Scenic Trail-- This trail exists on the Herbert Hoover Dike that goes all the way around Lake Okeechobee (approximately 110 miles) and is accessible from many locations. At most access areas there is plenty of parking. This trail is noted as an ideal place to view all of South Florida's agriculture, as well as bird and animal life. Ten locations have been designated around the lake as campsites, should you decide to overnight hike.
